My Style

Hamons

A Hamon is a Japanese bladesmithing technique where clay is applied to the spine of the blade before it is quenched into oil or water. The clay insulates the blade from the water causing it to not harden. The result is a blade with a soft and malleable spine and a hard edge. When the blade is polished it reveals a wispy line called the hamon. Blades with a hamon are tougher and can allow for a harder edge which means a sharper edge.

Damascus Steel

Damascus is a steel made from two different steels forge welded together, usually a simple carbon steel like 1084 which shows up as black and a nickel bearing steel like 15N20 which shows up as bright silver. The Damascus patterns are developed by folding, twisting and cutting the steel to increase the layers and manipulate the look of the pattern.

Stabilized Wood Handles

Stabilized wood is natural wood that has been filled with resin. Stabilized wood will far outlast natural wood and takes on a nice polish. It is also available in different colours.
